Email platforms, pricing, setup and audience-building guidance for UK creators.

  • Best Email Marketing Platforms for UK Creators (2026): EmailOctopus vs MailerLite vs Kit

Quick verdict: EmailOctopus is the strongest choice for straightforward, affordable email marketing. MailerLite is better when you want email plus websites, landing pages, digital products and bookings in one account. Kit is the strongest fit for creator-focused audience growth and more sophisticated automations—but its paid automation features cost more.

Research note: This comparison is based on official pricing, feature and help documentation checked on 14 October 2026. Creator Systems Hub has not conducted long-term hands-on testing of all three platforms. Features, allowances and prices can change, so confirm purchase-critical details with each provider.

The short answer: which email platform suits you?

    • Choose EmailOctopus if you want focused email marketing, a generous free allowance and a relatively low advertised paid starting price.
    • Choose MailerLite if you want email marketing alongside websites, landing pages, bookings, digital products and paid newsletters.
    • Choose Kit if your business revolves around a creator audience and you expect to use sophisticated sequences, visual automations, recommendations and creator monetisation tools.

There is no honest universal winner because these platforms make different trade-offs. The right question is not “Which has the longest feature list?” It is “Which one supports the system I actually intend to operate?”

EmailOctopus vs MailerLite vs Kit at a glance

Compare EmailOctopus, MailerLite and Kit for UK creators. See free limits, pricing, automation strengths and which platform fits your business.

Headline allowances do not tell the whole story. A free account can store plenty of subscribers but still lack the automation, reporting or design control your business needs. Compare the workflow rather than choosing solely from the largest number.

EmailOctopus: the focused option for affordable newsletters

EmailOctopus concentrates on email campaigns, automations, forms, landing pages, segmentation and reporting. It deliberately avoids becoming a sprawling customer relationship management system or all-in-one sales platform.

That focus is useful when your website, products and checkout already live elsewhere. You can use EmailOctopus to collect subscribers, send newsletters and deliver welcome sequences without also paying for another website builder or product platform you may never use.

Why its free plan is genuinely useful

The EmailOctopus Starter plan currently supports up to 2,500 subscribers and 10,000 emails per month. It includes one landing page, one form and access for one user. Reports remain available for 30 days, and emails contain EmailOctopus branding.

For a new UK creator publishing one regular newsletter, this is a practical allowance rather than a short demonstration account. It provides enough capacity to test whether readers actually subscribe, open, click and remain engaged before a paid upgrade becomes necessary.

    What happens when you upgrade

EmailOctopus advertises Pro from $9 per month when billed yearly. The precise price depends on both the number of subscribed contacts stored and the required sending allowance. Annual billing receives a 10% discount but is paid upfront.

Pro removes EmailOctopus branding and provides permanent reports, unlimited landing pages and forms, and unlimited users. Accounts can be upgraded automatically when their contact allowance is exceeded, so growing lists should monitor their subscriber count and the next pricing tier.

The billing detail that can catch people out

Each EmailOctopus list is independent. If the same person appears on two lists, that address can be counted twice for billing purposes. The provider recommends keeping contacts in one main list and using fields and tags to organise them.

This is easy to overlook when creating a separate list for every lead magnet. A cleaner tagging structure may avoid duplicate subscribers and make future segmentation easier.

    Who should choose EmailOctopus?

    • Creators primarily needing newsletters, forms and manageable automations
    • Businesses whose website and checkout already live elsewhere
    • Beginners wanting useful free capacity before upgrading
    • Teams that value a focused tool over a large collection of adjacent features
    • UK users who prefer a platform operated by a London-based company

MailerLite: the broader toolkit for marketing and selling

MailerLite extends well beyond newsletters. Alongside campaigns and automations, it offers websites, landing pages, forms, digital products, bookings, paid newsletters and ecommerce connections.

This can reduce the number of separate services required by a small creator business. A coach could collect subscribers, accept bookings and send automated follow-up from one platform. A digital creator could build landing pages and sell a simple product without immediately adding another storefront.

The free plan is capable but deliberately small

MailerLite’s free plan currently supports up to 250 subscribers and 2,500 monthly emails. It includes two user seats, three active automations with up to five steps each, one website, one landing page, three forms and one digital product or booking.

The subscriber limit is much lower than either EmailOctopus or Kit. The trade-off is access to a broader toolkit. Someone testing several parts of a small online business may learn more from MailerLite’s free account, while a newsletter expecting faster list growth may hit its ceiling quickly.

Comfort and Power solve different problems

MailerLite advertises Comfort from $12 per month. It includes up to 50 active automations, ten websites and landing pages, ten forms, five digital products or bookings and three user seats. Monthly sending is based on the subscriber tier.

Power starts from $25 per month and is aimed at higher-volume or more complex operations. It includes unlimited monthly emails, automations, forms, sites, digital products, bookings and users, subject to the provider’s policies and fair-use terms.

The best plan is therefore not automatically Power. Comfort may be enough for a creator who publishes regular newsletters and runs a small set of welcome or sales automations.

    Understand how MailerLite counts subscribers

Billing is based on active subscribers, but the count is cumulative within each billing cycle. If a subscriber was active during that cycle and is removed before the billing anniversary, the address may continue counting until the cycle resets.

This matters during a list clean-up. Deleting inactive contacts shortly before renewal may not reduce the current cycle’s count immediately.

    Who should choose MailerLite?

    • Creators wanting email and landing pages in one system
    • Coaches using appointment bookings
    • Businesses selling simple digital products or paid newsletters
    • Users who want a visual automation builder and broader optimisation tools
    • Small teams that value two free user seats

Kit: the creator-first option for audience growth and automation

Kit, formerly ConvertKit, is built specifically around creator businesses. Its positioning covers authors, bloggers, coaches, course creators, musicians, podcasters, newsletter operators and YouTubers.

The platform combines broadcasts, forms, landing pages, tagging, segmentation, visual automations and email sequences with creator-oriented monetisation features. These include digital products, paid newsletters, subscriptions, recommendations and sponsorship tools.

Its free subscriber allowance is the headline attraction

Kit currently advertises a free plan supporting up to 10,000 subscribers. It includes unlimited landing pages and forms, unlimited email broadcasts, audience tagging and segmentation, and the ability to sell digital products and subscriptions.

That is the largest advertised free subscriber allowance of the three platforms in this comparison. However, storage capacity alone should not make the decision. The paid Creator plan is where Kit adds unlimited visual automations and unlimited email sequences.

Creator is a meaningful price jump

For 1,000 subscribers, Kit currently lists Creator at $33 per month when billed yearly, with an annual total of $390. It includes unlimited visual automations and sequences, subject-line testing, polls, removal of Kit branding, integrations and additional support.

This is substantially above the advertised starting prices of EmailOctopus and MailerLite. The extra cost is easier to justify when automation is central to the business—for example, when subscribers need different journeys according to the lead magnet downloaded, product purchased or action taken.

Kit’s real advantage is its creator-oriented system

A creator may want more than a broadcast tool. Kit is designed around moving an audience from a form into tags, sequences, automations, products and recommendations. That connected workflow can be more valuable than the cheapest monthly subscription.

Conversely, someone who only sends a weekly newsletter may be paying for sophistication that is not yet needed. Start with the actual journey you intend to build, not the journey a software sales page encourages you to imagine.

    Who should choose Kit?

    • Creators whose email list sits at the centre of the business
    • Businesses requiring multiple sequences and visual automations
    • Newsletter creators interested in recommendations and sponsorship tools
    • Creators selling digital products, subscriptions or paid newsletters
    • Users prepared to pay more for creator-specific workflows

    Explore Kit’s current plans →

Which platform offers the best free plan?

Kit offers the largest advertised subscriber allowance at up to 10,000. This makes it attractive for audience storage and regular broadcasts.

EmailOctopus offers the most balanced free starting point for someone wanting focused email marketing, with 2,500 subscribers and 10,000 monthly emails.

MailerLite offers the broadest collection of adjacent tools on its free plan, but its 250-subscriber ceiling is restrictive.

The winner depends on what “free” needs to accomplish. If you only need to broadcast to the largest possible audience, Kit deserves attention. If you want a focused newsletter system with a useful allowance, EmailOctopus is compelling. If you want to test websites, bookings or digital products alongside email, MailerLite may teach you more before requiring payment.

Which platform is best for automation?

Kit is the strongest candidate when advanced creator automation is the deciding factor. Its Creator plan includes unlimited visual automations and sequences designed to connect subscriber activity with creator offers.

MailerLite is a strong middle ground. Comfort permits up to 50 active automations, while Power removes that limit and adds multiple triggers.

EmailOctopus is better suited to more straightforward journeys such as a welcome sequence, lead-magnet delivery or a manageable nurture campaign. Its narrower scope can be an advantage when the alternative is building a complicated automation that nobody maintains.

Which platform is best for a UK creator?

All three can be used by UK creators, but their headline prices are generally displayed in US dollars. The sterling amount can therefore vary with exchange rates, card conversion charges and applicable taxes.

EmailOctopus is operated by a UK company, but its public pricing is still displayed in dollars. MailerLite states that its data storage centre is in the European Union and provides GDPR controls. Kit also publishes GDPR information, but every business remains responsible for configuring forms, consent records and data handling appropriately.

Software cannot make a website compliant on its own. Your signup wording, privacy notice, lawful basis, tracking choices and email practices still matter.

    Our recommendation by use case

Best for simple and affordable email marketing: EmailOctopus

EmailOctopus is our preferred starting point when the main job is collecting subscribers and sending newsletters without purchasing a large additional toolkit. Its free allowance is useful, its positioning is clear and its paid entry price is relatively low.

Best for an all-round small-business toolkit: MailerLite

MailerLite is the better fit when its website, landing-page, digital-product and booking capabilities can replace services you would otherwise buy separately. The small free subscriber limit is the main drawback.

Best for an automation-led creator business: Kit

Kit is the strongest fit when an email audience is the engine of a creator business and visual automations, sequences, recommendations and creator monetisation justify the higher paid price.

A sensible way to choose without creating a migration headache

    1. Write down the first three emails you genuinely need to send.
    2. Define one signup route and one offer rather than designing a huge hypothetical funnel.
    3. Build that same workflow in the free account or trial of your shortlisted platforms.
    4. Send test emails to Gmail, Outlook and another address you control.
    5. Check mobile formatting, unsubscribe behaviour and subscriber tagging.
    6. Export your contacts and confirm which data is included.
    7. Calculate the cost at your expected subscriber count in 12 months—not only today’s count.
    8. Upgrade only when a real limitation blocks useful work.

This practical test will reveal more than comparing hundreds of features on paper. The best platform is the one your business can operate consistently without wasting money or trapping important audience data.

    Final verdict

For most new UK creators who want a focused and economical newsletter system, EmailOctopus is the most balanced starting choice.

Choose MailerLite when its broader website, selling and booking tools will replace other subscriptions. Choose Kit when creator-focused automation and audience monetisation are central enough to justify its higher paid price.

None of the three is perfect for every business. Start with the smallest real workflow, test it properly and preserve clean exports of your subscriber data. That produces a more dependable decision than choosing whichever platform has the loudest marketing or largest feature list.

Broader creator tools Focused on email, forms and landing pages Includes website, digital-product, booking and paid-newsletter capabilities
Best initial fit A larger list needing straightforward newsletters at a low entry cost A creator wanting more marketing and selling tools in one platform

The headline numbers make the basic difference clear: EmailOctopus gives beginners considerably more list and sending capacity for free, while MailerLite includes a wider range of tools around the email service.

Free plans: EmailOctopus offers much more sending room

EmailOctopus currently lists a free Starter plan for up to 2,500 subscribers and 10,000 emails per month. It includes one landing page, one form and one user. Reports remain available for 30 days, and emails carry EmailOctopus branding.

MailerLite’s free plan currently supports up to 250 subscribers and 2,500 monthly emails. It includes two user seats, three automations, one website, one landing page, three signup forms and one digital product or booking.

For a creator whose immediate requirement is simply to build a list and send a regular newsletter, EmailOctopus gives far more room before a paid upgrade. MailerLite’s allowance is smaller, but its free account lets you explore a broader set of functions.

Paid pricing: compare the plan you will actually need

EmailOctopus advertises Pro pricing from $9 per month when billed yearly. The exact cost depends on both subscriber storage and sending requirements. The annual option is discounted by 10%, while monthly billing is also available. Pro removes the free-plan branding and provides permanent reports, unlimited landing pages and forms, and unlimited users.

MailerLite lists Comfort from $12 per month and Power from $25 per month. Comfort includes up to 50 active automations, ten websites and landing pages, ten signup forms, three seats and additional optimisation features. Power moves to unlimited monthly emails, users, automations, landing pages and forms, subject to the provider’s policies and plan details.

Both services scale as usage grows, so a starting price alone is not enough. Model the cost at your expected subscriber count and sending frequency. UK customers should also allow for exchange-rate movements and any applicable taxes because the headline prices checked for this article were displayed in US dollars.

    Email creation and templates

Both platforms provide drag-and-drop editing, mobile-friendly templates, personalisation and the option to work with HTML. EmailOctopus lists more than 100 templates and keeps its positioning deliberately focused on essential email marketing.

MailerLite also supplies drag-and-drop, simple and custom-HTML editors. Its paid plans add a wider collection of optimisation and content tools, including features such as multivariate testing, dynamic content, smart sending and an AI writing assistant on the relevant plan.

If you mainly need a dependable editor for broadcasts and basic sequences, the narrower EmailOctopus approach may be enough. If testing, personalisation and campaign optimisation are central to the plan, MailerLite deserves closer examination.

    Automations

The free plans are closer than the subscriber limits suggest: each currently permits three automations with up to five steps. EmailOctopus supports triggers, waits, conditional branches and actions such as updating fields or tags. Its Pro plan also supports multiple triggers in a single automation.

MailerLite’s Comfort plan allows up to 50 active automations, while Power allows unlimited automations and adds multiple automation triggers. MailerLite also highlights e-commerce triggers and a visual automation builder.

For a straightforward welcome sequence, either platform may be sufficient. For a business planning several funnels, behavioural branches and commerce-led journeys, compare the exact triggers and limits against a written workflow before choosing.

Landing pages, websites and selling tools

EmailOctopus provides forms and landing pages designed to collect subscribers. On Pro, both are unlimited. That is a sensible fit when your main website, checkout and products already live elsewhere.

MailerLite reaches further beyond email. Its current plans include a website builder and tools for digital products, bookings and paid newsletters, with the quantities depending on the plan. This could reduce the number of separate services required for a simple creator business.

The trade-off is focus. A creator who already has WordPress, a course platform or a dedicated checkout may not need MailerLite’s additional tools. Someone building a lean business from scratch may value having them in one account.

    List organisation and billing details

EmailOctopus states that each list is independent. If the same person appears on multiple lists, that subscriber can be counted more than once for billing. Its documentation recommends keeping contacts in one list and using tags and fields where possible.

MailerLite bases billing on active subscribers. Its current pricing explanation says a subscriber who was active at any time during a billing cycle counts until the next billing anniversary, even if removed earlier. These details matter when forecasting costs or migrating an established list.

Which one should a UK creator choose?

    Choose EmailOctopus if:

    • You want the largest useful free allowance of these two options.
    • Your main need is newsletters, forms, landing pages and manageable automations.
    • Your website, products and checkout already live elsewhere.
    • You prefer a focused tool with a lower advertised paid starting point.

    Choose MailerLite if:

    • You want email plus a website, digital products, bookings or paid newsletters.
    • You expect to use more numerous or more advanced automations.
    • Testing, optimisation and e-commerce connections are important.
    • You are comfortable with a smaller free subscriber allowance.

    Our conclusion

For a new UK newsletter project, EmailOctopus is the better value starting point because its free plan leaves far more room to grow an audience and send campaigns. MailerLite becomes more compelling when the business needs a wider set of creation, selling and optimisation tools inside the same platform.

The sensible decision is therefore based on the system around the newsletter. Pick EmailOctopus for a focused and economical email layer. Pick MailerLite when its broader tools can replace other services you would otherwise pay for.

How to Start an Email Newsletter with EmailOctopus: UK Setup Guide

Affiliate disclosure: Creator Systems Hub may earn a commission if you sign up to EmailOctopus through links in this guide, at no extra cost to you. This guide follows EmailOctopus’s official documentation and does not claim hands-on testing where none occurred.

Still choosing your platform? Read our EmailOctopus vs MailerLite comparison before committing to the setup process.

A newsletter setup is more than choosing a template and pressing send. You need a clean list structure, a properly authenticated sending domain, a clear sign-up promise and a welcome email that confirms what subscribers will receive.

This guide takes a UK creator through the practical EmailOctopus setup sequence, from planning the newsletter to testing the first campaign.

What to decide before opening EmailOctopus

Write down these five decisions first:

    1. Who the newsletter is for
    2. What useful result or information it will provide
    3. How often you can publish consistently
    4. What someone receives immediately after subscribing
    5. How the newsletter supports your wider business

A narrow promise is easier to explain and maintain than “news and updates”. For example, “one practical course-platform tip every Tuesday” tells a reader what to expect.

Step 1: Choose the right EmailOctopus plan

EmailOctopus’s free Starter plan currently supports up to 2,500 subscribed contacts and 10,000 emails per month. It includes core campaign and automation features but limits forms, landing pages, users, report history and automation size, and adds EmailOctopus branding.

Start free when you are validating the newsletter. Consider Pro when brand control, permanent reporting, several users, more forms or longer automations are essential.

See our EmailOctopus pricing guide for the current limits and upgrade considerations.

Step 2: Use one main list

A new EmailOctopus account includes an empty list under Contacts. Its documentation says most users do not need several lists because separate lists add complexity and duplicate subscribed contacts can count more than once for billing.

Use one main list, then organise subscribers with:

    • Tags for source, interests or actions
    • Fields for information such as first name
    • Segments for dynamic groups based on data or activity

Collect only information you genuinely need. Every extra required field creates more work for the subscriber and another piece of personal data to manage.

Step 3: Set your sender name and verify your domain

Your sender name should be immediately recognisable, such as “Adam at Creator Systems Hub”. Use an address on a domain you control rather than relying on a free personal mailbox.

EmailOctopus strongly recommends verifying your domain to improve authentication and inbox placement. In the Senders area, choose Verify new sender, then Verify domain. Enter the root domain without “www” or “https”.

EmailOctopus then provides DNS records to add at your domain’s DNS provider. Its current instructions describe four CNAME records and one TXT record. Copy every name and value exactly, allow time for DNS changes to propagate, then return to EmailOctopus and select Complete verification.

Domain verification configures authentication including DKIM, SPF alignment and DMARC. It does not mean email is sent from your own web server; EmailOctopus still handles delivery.

Step 4: Decide between single and double opt-in

EmailOctopus uses single opt-in by default and lets you enable double opt-in from the list’s Consent & customisation settings.

With double opt-in, a new form subscriber remains pending until they click the confirmation link. This can improve list quality and gives you an additional record of confirmation, although the extra step can reduce completed sign-ups.

Choose deliberately based on your audience, acquisition method and legal advice. Do not import people merely because you have their email address; ensure you have an appropriate basis and permission to send marketing.

Step 5: Create the sign-up form

Go to Grow > Forms and create a form. EmailOctopus currently offers inline, hello-bar, slide-in and pop-up formats.

    A good first form needs:

    • A short description of what subscribers will receive
    • An email field and, only when useful, a first-name field
    • A clear subscribe button
    • Consent wording appropriate to your use
    • A link to your privacy information
    • A helpful success message or thank-you-page redirect

You can add a tag automatically to identify where the subscriber joined. EmailOctopus also provides reCAPTCHA and consent-checkbox options in the form settings.

Step 6: Add the form to WordPress

When the form is ready, use Add to your website to obtain its embed code. On WordPress, you can place that code in a Custom HTML block on the relevant page, or use EmailOctopus’s WordPress integration where appropriate.

Test the form in a private browser window and on a phone. Confirm that the subscriber appears in the correct list with the expected field values and tags.

Do not add the same form code more than once on one page. EmailOctopus’s documentation advises duplicating a form when you need a second instance.

Step 7: Build a simple welcome automation

Go to Automations and create a “Simple welcome” automation or start from scratch. Connect it to the correct list while it is still a draft, because the connected list cannot be changed after activation.

Use “Contact added” as the trigger, then add an email step. A useful first welcome message should:

    • Thank the subscriber
    • Deliver any promised lead magnet
    • Restate the newsletter’s subject and frequency
    • Tell the reader what to do next
    • Invite a reply or point to one strong resource

Check whether imported contacts should enter the automation. People who already received an equivalent welcome sequence should not be sent it again accidentally.

Step 8: Create a reusable email design

Set up your logo, colours, fonts and social links in the Brand area. EmailOctopus provides drag-and-drop templates and an HTML editor.

    Keep the first template restrained:

    • One recognisable header
    • A readable single-column body
    • Short paragraphs
    • One primary call to action
    • A visible unsubscribe link and required business information

Test on desktop and mobile and send a test to more than one inbox provider before using the template with your full list.

Step 9: Prepare and test the first campaign

Choose the correct list or segment, write a specific subject line and add preview text that complements it rather than repeating it.

    Before scheduling or sending, check:

    • Sender name and address
    • Subject and preview text
    • Personalisation fallbacks
    • Every link and button
    • Image alternative text
    • Mobile layout
    • Unsubscribe and business details
    • The recipient segment

Send a test, click every link and read the message on a phone. A two-minute check can prevent a broken campaign reaching the entire list.

Step 10: Review results without chasing vanity metrics

After sending, review delivery, clicks, unsubscribes, complaints and the actions people take on your website. Open tracking can be affected by privacy features, so it should not be treated as a perfect measure of individual interest.

Compare campaigns over time using consistent goals. A smaller newsletter that drives replies, useful conversations or sales can be healthier than a larger list with weak engagement.

    A sensible starter newsletter system

    • One main list
    • One inline website form
    • One focused landing page
    • One welcome email
    • One reusable campaign template
    • One regular publishing day
    • A monthly review of growth, clicks, unsubscribes and conversions

Add complex segmentation and multi-step automation only when the basic newsletter is publishing reliably.

    Final pre-launch checklist

    • The newsletter promise and frequency are clear
    • The sender domain is fully verified
    • Consent and privacy wording have been reviewed
    • The form works on desktop and mobile
    • Tags and fields are saved correctly
    • Double opt-in behaves as intended
    • The welcome automation is active
    • Test emails arrive and all links work
    • The unsubscribe route is visible
    • The first campaign targets the correct audience

EmailOctopus Pricing UK (2026): Free vs Pro Plans Explained

Affiliate disclosure: Creator Systems Hub may earn a commission if you sign up to EmailOctopus through links in this guide, at no extra cost to you. Prices and limits were checked against EmailOctopus’s official website in September 2026 and can change.

Also comparing platforms? See our EmailOctopus vs MailerLite UK comparison for a side-by-side look at allowances, paid plans and functionality.

EmailOctopus has an unusually generous free plan, but the headline contact allowance does not tell you everything. Report history, branding, forms, users, automation limits and the way contacts are counted can determine whether Starter remains practical or Pro becomes worthwhile.

This guide explains the current EmailOctopus pricing structure for UK creators, including the costs that are easy to miss as a list grows.

    EmailOctopus pricing at a glance

EmailOctopus currently offers two main plans:

    • Starter: free, with up to 2,500 subscribers and 10,000 emails per month
    • Pro: paid pricing that scales with subscriber and sending limits, advertised from $9 per month when billed yearly

The pricing page displays US dollars. A UK buyer’s final sterling cost depends on the exchange rate, card-provider currency charges and any tax applied at checkout.

EmailOctopus says annual Pro billing receives a 10% discount compared with monthly billing. Annual subscriptions are paid for 12 months upfront, while monthly plans renew each month.

What the free Starter plan includes

Starter is free forever rather than a time-limited trial. At the time of checking it includes:

    • Up to 2,500 subscribed contacts
    • Up to 10,000 emails per month
    • One account user
    • One landing page and one form
    • Reports retained for 30 days
    • Up to 10 fields and 10 tags per list
    • Up to three automations
    • Up to five steps in each automation, excluding the trigger
    • Live-chat support during the first 30 days

Emails sent on Starter must include EmailOctopus branding. That is reasonable for testing a platform, but it may not suit a business that wants complete control over every element of its email design.

How far can 10,000 emails per month go?

Your monthly send requirement depends on list size and frequency. A simple estimate is:

Subscribed contacts × campaigns per month = approximate monthly sends

    • 500 subscribers receiving four newsletters: about 2,000 sends
    • 1,500 subscribers receiving four newsletters: about 6,000 sends
    • 2,500 subscribers receiving four newsletters: about 10,000 sends

Automated welcome emails, reminders and follow-ups also use the sending allowance. A list can therefore remain below 2,500 contacts while exceeding 10,000 emails.

    When does Pro become worthwhile?

Pro is not only for lists above 2,500 subscribers. It can become useful earlier when the free-plan limitations affect normal work.

    Consider Pro when you need:

    • Removal of EmailOctopus branding
    • Reports retained beyond 30 days
    • Unlimited landing pages and forms
    • More than one user
    • More automations or longer automated sequences
    • Higher subscriber or monthly sending limits
    • Ongoing priority support and live chat

A small professional newsletter might upgrade for design control and reporting even before approaching the contact limit. A solo side project may remain on Starter much longer.

    How EmailOctopus counts subscribers

EmailOctopus bases pricing on subscribed contacts stored across your account, provided you remain within the email-sending allowance. Unsubscribed contacts and contacts removed because of a bounce or complaint do not count towards the subscriber total.

Lists are independent. If the same person appears as subscribed on two separate lists, EmailOctopus says that contact is counted twice for billing. Its guidance recommends keeping contacts on one main list and using tags, fields and segments to organise them.

That structure can reduce duplicate billing and makes it easier to maintain consistent consent and suppression information.

Automatic upgrades as your list grows

If your subscribed-contact count moves above the current tier, EmailOctopus can automatically move the account to the next tier and charge the difference. On an annual subscription, upgrade costs are prorated for the remaining months in the term.

You can also upgrade manually when you need a larger sending allowance, even if the list itself has not reached the subscriber limit.

EmailOctopus documents an “Optimise plan pricing” setting for automatic downgrades. Monthly accounts can move down at the next billing period when eligible; annual accounts generally wait until the annual term renews.

    Monthly versus annual billing

Annual billing offers the lower equivalent monthly price but requires a larger payment upfront. Monthly billing costs more over a full year but preserves flexibility if your project is still experimental.

Annual billing may suit you when:

    • You have already tested EmailOctopus
    • Your list and sending pattern are stable
    • You expect to use the platform for at least a year
    • The 10% saving outweighs the value of monthly flexibility

Monthly billing may suit you when:

    • You are migrating and want to validate the workflow first
    • Your list size is changing quickly
    • You may switch tools during the next few months
    • You prefer smaller recurring payments

    EmailOctopus and UK data-protection considerations

EmailOctopus describes itself as a UK-based, GDPR-compliant platform. That does not remove your own responsibilities as the organisation collecting and using subscriber data.

Before sending, make sure you have an appropriate lawful basis, explain your use of subscriber data, keep consent records where required and provide a working unsubscribe route. Review the platform’s current data-processing terms and obtain professional advice for your own circumstances when necessary.

    EmailOctopus versus EmailOctopus Connect

The standard EmailOctopus product handles email delivery for you. EmailOctopus Connect is a separate product that connects to Amazon SES and has a different pricing model.

Connect may appeal to more technical users looking for SES-based sending costs, but it introduces an AWS account and separate Amazon charges. Do not compare a standard EmailOctopus plan with Connect without including those extra setup and delivery considerations.

Which plan should a new creator choose?

Start with Starter when you are building your first list, sending a straightforward newsletter and can accept platform branding, shorter report history and limited forms and automations.

Choose Pro when the newsletter is part of a serious business, brand control matters, several people need access or automations and reporting are central to your sales process.

The sensible route for many new creators is to start free, set up one clean list, verify the sending domain and test a real campaign workflow. Upgrade when a specific Starter limitation costs more time or credibility than the Pro subscription.

A quick cost check before upgrading

    1. Count subscribed contacts across every list, including duplicates.
    2. Estimate newsletters and automated sends per month.
    3. Decide whether 30-day reporting is sufficient.
    4. List the forms, landing pages, users and automations you need.
    5. Compare monthly flexibility with the 10% annual discount.
    6. Check the live pricing calculator for your exact contact and send limits.

EmailOctopus Review UK (2026): Is It Right for Creators?

Comparing alternatives? Our EmailOctopus vs MailerLite comparison for UK creators puts the free plans, automation features and wider creator tools side by side.

Email marketing is still one of the most useful assets a creator can own. Unlike a social following, an email list gives you a direct way to reach readers, students and customers without relying entirely on an algorithm. The difficult part is choosing software that is affordable, capable and not needlessly complicated.

EmailOctopus aims squarely at that problem. It is a London-based email marketing platform offering campaigns, automations, templates, forms, landing pages, segmentation and reporting. Its free plan is unusually practical for a new creator, while the paid Pro plan removes the main restrictions as the list grows.

Quick verdict: EmailOctopus is a strong option for UK bloggers, coaches, course creators and small businesses that want straightforward email marketing at a sensible price. It is less suitable if you need an advanced CRM, complex sales pipelines or an all-in-one course platform.

    What is EmailOctopus?

EmailOctopus is a self-service email marketing platform operated by Three Hearts Digital Ltd, a company based in London. It lets you collect subscribers, design and send newsletters, create automated sequences, segment contacts and review campaign results.

It is not a course host and it will not replace platforms such as Thinkific, FreshLearn or Podia. Instead, it sits alongside them. A course creator might use EmailOctopus to deliver a lead magnet, welcome new subscribers, promote a launch and follow up with students.

    EmailOctopus pricing

EmailOctopus has two main plans. Pricing is displayed in US dollars and paid pricing scales with the size of your list and your email allowance.

    Starter: free

    • Up to 2,500 subscribers
    • Up to 10,000 emails per month
    • EmailOctopus branding on emails
    • Reports retained for 30 days
    • One landing page and one form
    • Access for one user

This is enough to build a genuine list and send regular newsletters before paying. The branding and reporting limits are the main compromises.

Pro: from $9 per month when billed yearly

    • Full control over email design without EmailOctopus branding
    • Reports retained indefinitely
    • Unlimited landing pages and forms
    • Unlimited users
    • Pricing that scales with subscribers and monthly sends
    • Cancel at any time

The official pricing page currently advertises a 10% saving for yearly billing. Check the live calculator before buying because the exact total depends on your list size and sending volume.

    Key features

    Campaign builder and templates

You can build emails with a drag-and-drop editor or write your own HTML. EmailOctopus provides more than 100 mobile-friendly templates covering newsletters, announcements, launches, promotions and events. Branded templates can pull in your colours, fonts and logo to speed up design work.

    Email automations

Automations can deliver welcome emails, lead magnets and multi-step nurture sequences without manual sending. EmailOctopus also provides automation templates, including welcome, re-engagement and birthday workflows. Triggers, contact data and conditional paths can be used to target different subscribers.

    Forms and landing pages

EmailOctopus includes embeddable forms and hosted landing pages for collecting subscribers. That is useful if you do not yet have a dedicated landing-page tool. The free Starter plan permits one form and one landing page; Pro removes that limit.

    Segmentation and list management

Contacts can be organised with fields, tags and campaign activity. This lets you send more relevant messages — for example, separating existing students from people who have only downloaded a free guide.

    Reporting

Reports show performance data such as opens, clicks and unsubscribes. Results can also be exported for further analysis. Remember that open tracking is increasingly approximate across the email industry, so clicks, replies and sales are usually more useful measures than opens alone.

    Advantages for UK creators

    • A useful free plan: 2,500 subscribers and 10,000 monthly emails offer real room to start.
    • Simple positioning: the platform focuses on email rather than burying users inside a large CRM.
    • London-based operator: EmailOctopus is operated by a UK company, although paid pricing is displayed in US dollars.
    • Lead-generation tools included: forms and landing pages reduce the number of separate services a beginner needs.
    • Flexible design: use drag and drop for speed or HTML for greater control.

    Limitations to consider

    • The free plan includes EmailOctopus branding and only 30 days of reporting history.
    • Only one landing page and one form are included on Starter.
    • Pricing is shown in US dollars, so the sterling cost can vary with exchange rates.
    • Businesses needing a full CRM, SMS marketing, sophisticated sales pipelines or deep ecommerce automation may need a more advanced platform.
    • EmailOctopus handles marketing emails, not course delivery, checkout or community hosting.

EmailOctopus versus an all-in-one creator platform

EmailOctopus works best as a focused part of your software stack. Pair it with your website and course platform when you want control over newsletters and automated follow-up. An all-in-one platform may be simpler if you want courses, checkout, community and email under one login, but specialist tools often provide clearer pricing and make it easier to replace one component later.

    Who should choose EmailOctopus?

EmailOctopus is worth considering if you are:

    • Starting a newsletter or building your first email list
    • A coach or course creator delivering a lead magnet
    • A blogger wanting regular campaigns and simple automations
    • A small UK business that values clarity and affordability
    • Moving away from a platform that has become too expensive or complicated

Look elsewhere if your main requirement is advanced sales CRM functionality or a single platform that also hosts and sells your courses.

    Final verdict

EmailOctopus offers a sensible balance of price, usability and core email-marketing features. Its free plan is generous enough to validate a newsletter or lead magnet properly, and Pro removes the restrictions most growing creators will eventually notice.

For UK creators who want email campaigns, useful automations and subscriber-growth tools without committing to a heavy all-in-one system, it deserves a place on the shortlist.
